Donated Food Benefits Project Topeka

TOPEKA, KAN. (February 6, 2017) – Topeka Metro and the Amalgamated Transit Union #1360 partnered on Saturday, February 4, 2017, to accept donated food items for the annual Stuff the Bus competition.

Stuff the Bus is a friendly challenge between the ATU #1360 bus operators to gather canned goods to benefit Project Topeka. On Saturday, one Topeka Metro bus was parked in the lot at Dillons North, and one at Dillons Fairlawn Plaza. Bus operators were on site to take food donations to be placed on the bus. All donated canned goods and non-perishable items were transported to Project Topeka after the competition ended. A total of 1,365 pounds of food was gathered this year.

“Project Topeka is always in need of food, so we thank those who generously donated to this cause,” said Topeka Metro General Manger Susan Duffy.

Topeka Metro and the ATU #1360 would like to thank all of those who donated, and the food will stay in Topeka. A big thank you also to Dillons Stores, who allowed the buses to park close to the store entrances.
