Multiple Topeka Metro Bus Shelters Vandalized

TOPEKA, KAN. (January 30, 2019) – Over the past two weeks, five Topeka Metro bus shelters were vandalized with the glass panels being shot out from the street. Nearly a dozen shelters have been damaged in the past two months. These crimes are taking place during daytime and evening hours.

Topeka Metro Safety and Security Supervisor Tom Baumgartner said, “This is a senseless act. Once a panel is shot, the glass shatters and becomes a hazard. Having to replace the glass costs time and money.”

Topeka Metro and the Topeka Police Department need the help of our citizens to identify the individual(s) who are vandalizing the bus shelters.

Topeka Metro General Manager Susan Duffy said, “These shelters enable riders to get relief from the wind, rain or snow, and it is so frustrating when this happens. In order for us to catch these individuals we need the public to ‘See It, Say It’ and notify the police. Together, we can end this criminal activity.”

Topeka Police ask that any information on this series of criminal actions be reported to the Criminal Intelligence Unit ( or Crimestoppers at 785-234-0007.
